Hello bloggers and welcome back to my blog, today is the 12th of January 2026, Monday. My SLJ activity for today is to make a poster for the Great octopus battle, generating it on a DLO Canva ! So that’s what I did now, so let’s jump in and get started on this story of a myth for Fijians.
First of all, for the octopus battle I am going to tell you where that myth originates from, it’s from a fijian religion, let’s get started.
Long time ago, there was this shark , Dakuwaqa. Long ago the people of Fiji known as Culoruu settled on the of a little village of the pacific.
Eventually they met creatures in other forms, but transformed to a human into a shark but he became proud and greedy and wanted to challenge everyone in his quest for his power. He sped underwater before the blink of an eye! When a eel coloured as a sunset, tried to stop him underwater as he sped Dakuwaqa punched right on the correct spot of the eel, and he flew all the way to the other side of the land making a crack in the village, that powerful. In the end the eel was not even close to Dakuwanqa’s power after he cracked the village.
Then that lake became the longest and widest river ever but Dakuwaqa did not care a bit for the mess he made, he made as he sped through the water .As he was swimming he saw masilanda from a little island. They started rocky but became friends, but masilanda got tired that quanda was so proud and powerful. He decided to present a challenge that he could not do then masilanda spoke about the rokobakanideva, a fierce octopus. If he did not fight him, he could not say he was the most powerful shark in the island . Dakuwaqa was speeding in the water just meet this octopus, then he wanted to fight the octopus.
He went straight in but the octopuses tentacul wrapped around his body and and flipped him upside down.( sharks will not able to breath upside then they would get paralyzed) so that’s what rokobakanideva did and he said to be good to the people to Dakuwaqa ,and that’s what he did. He promised and became a saviour of the island. Then what people do in memory of him is that they pour a tradinal drink called cavva in the oceon and others give him sliced fish heads! Ok the story is done that was quite a long story wow! so hope you like it and make sure to leave a thoughtful , helpful and positive comment here is the poster right below this description byee. 😃
